In our last COVID-19 update, we shared a study on new consumer habits. This week in our COVID-19 update, we will bring an update on the supply chain.
With the holidays right around the corner, the bottlenecked supply chain is potentially becoming even more problematic. To try and alleviate some of the pressure, it was announced Wednesday that the Port of Los Angeles will be working 24/7 through the 90-day sprint to the end of the year.
The Port of Los Angeles along with the Port of Long Beach, who has already started working 24/7, account for 40% of all shipping containers entering the United States. As of Tuesday, between the two ports, there were 80 ships waiting to dock. The new 24/7 model should help get these ships unloaded.
In conjunction, large retailers, such as Target, Samsung, Home Depot and others have committed to unloading during off-peak hours, making it easier for the Los Angeles port to operate nonstop. This will hopefully give smaller retailers a chance to get the goods from the new model.
With so much that has happened, and still much going on, it can be daunting feeling like there is no end in sight. While this will not fix all the problems, it is a nice to see a step in a more positive direction.
